Early on Easter Sunday, strong thunderstorms moved into East Texas and brought with them heavy rain and lighting. As the storms moved over southern Smith County, a lighting strike hit a family home in Flint, Texas. The family of 5 was fortunate to not be harmed during the explosion that occurred, but the family lost nearly all of their personal possessions. Hand Up Network was contacted immediately and began working with our Partner, Flint Baptist Church to try and stabilize their situation. Over the course of the next few days, a new home was secured and a Hand Up Network Response Team responded to help them move what few items they were able to save and also provide beds and essential items to help get them back on their feet. Another Hand Up Network Partner, Crisis Response Ministry provided counseling and the journey to recovery has begun. An event like this is not something that you can just get over quickly and Hand Up Network will be working to get the family into our Mentoring and Counseling Programs to ensure that they receive the support necessary to overcome these challenges. God is at work and we are honored to serve!
